Enabling and Disabling Preava Prevent

Learn about the different ways to enable and disable Preava Prevent.

⛔️ IF USERS CANNOT SEND EMAILS FOLLOW THESE STEPS

  1. Confirm Preava Prevent is not blocking the email from being sent because of unaddressed risks per these instructions (i.e. that the risks have either been approved or removed from the email).
  2. Confirm affected users have a functional internet connection (Outlook Add-ins require a high-speed modern broadband internet connection).
  3. If affected users are using Outlook on the Web, ensure cookies are enabled.
  4. If the Preava Prevent Outlook Add-in isn't loading (which is almost certainly related user-specific internet connectivity, computer performance, or, in the case of Outlook on the Web, web browser issues), have them restart/reload Outlook, and if that doesn't work, have them restart their computer.
  5. If issues persist and the Outlook Add-in is loading, then instruct affected users temporarily disable (for 24 hours) the scanning for risks by following these instructions.
  6. If issues persist and the Outlook Add-in isn't loading, then instruct affected users to manually disable the Outlook Add-in by following these instructions. NOTE: This requires that the Outlook Add-in was centrally deployed using the Optional deployment method (documented here).
  7. As a last resort, you can centrally disable the Outlook Add-in for all users by following these instructions.

User-Initiated: Add-In Removal (For Available and Optional Deployments Only)

The steps outlined below are only available to users who have had the Preava Prevent Outlook Add-in deployed using the Available or Optional deployment methods (described here).

In select scenarios adding recipients and a subject line will be necessary to enable the Get Add-ins button.

  1. In Outlook, click Get Add-ins from the Home tab on the ribbon. (Alternatively, you can select File > Manage Add-ins, which will take you to Outlook on the web (OWA) and open the Add-ins for Outlook dialog there, or click on this direct access link: https://aka.ms/olksideload.)
  2. Click on Admin-managed, then on the Preava Prevent Outlook Add-in, click on the three horizontal (Manage Add-in) ellipses and select Remove.
  3. It's best to track which users manually remove the Outlook Add-in so you can have them add it back in the future. Alternately, you can change the deployment method to Fixed (Default).
  4. To add the Outlook Add-in back, users can follow steps 1 and 2, however instead of clicking on the three horizontal (Manage Add-in) ellipses, they can simply click the Add button.
